Lisa Zirbel is an artist working in manipulated photography mediums, performance, and sculpture. She received her BFA, Anthropology and Museum Studies Minors, and Post-Baccalaureate from the University of Wyoming. Zirbel is a recent MFA graduate from Arizona State University. She has taught for multiple colleges and art centers in the Valley along with programming events for Tempe Arts and Culture.
Zirbel has extensively explored the uninhabited landscapes of the West and Southwest United States. Her work utilizes natural history and ecology to view and compare human responses to loss and memory. The work is guided by careful viewing, compassionate listening, and a negotiation of the land’s ability to both heal and injure.
