Sketchbook Skills with Andy Burgess
The sketchbook is the artists’ best friend – an amazing and versatile tool that has sustained artists for hundreds of years. It’s a companion, a diary, a calendar, a memoir, an ideas board, a place for experimentation and play and a perfect antidote, in today’s digital world, to our increasingly screen based lives!
So, let’s stop tapping on a glass screen for a few hours and instead draw, collage, and make a creative mess with all manner of pencils, pens, paint, glue, and found materials.
This one day workshop will be a primer in making the most out of your sketchbook…your “portable studio” – giving you confidence to make a little bit of art each and every day whether at home or on the move.
We will draw in pencil and pen from life; trying quick portraits, still-lives and landscapes. We will experiment with watercolor and ink and we will fabricate tiny collages out of the things we find around us. We will make thumbnail sketches in a matter of seconds and color palettes as research for future work. This will be an energetic day of art-making and experimentation, both figurative and abstract. …hopefully leaving you inspired and ready to go in any direction you choose!
