NON-FICTION – Creating Captions: Writing the Family through Photographs
The goal of this type of memoir writing is to create short chapters or anecdotes, some biographical in nature and some autobiographical, all of which are inspired by family photographs. In a sense, the photographs will serve as catalysts for the anecdotes, which can be born out of a combination of research, lore, and creative filler. We’ll explore the use of creative disclaimers and transparency, both of which are essential to the “authenticity” of creative non-fiction, as well as character sketching/development, scenic development, historical time markers, description that forges link between the narratives and the photographs, and universal appeal.
