INFOCUS Portfolio Workshop 2017

The morning session will bring us presentations by four individuals for whom social media plays an important role in their communications efforts, encompassing newsletters, blogs, Facebook/Facebook Live, Instagram, Twitter and more. Author and educator Mary Virginia Swanson will open, offering her wisdom, insights and examples of best practices. We will then hear from two artists at different places in their careers who will share how social media plays a role in communicating their message: Clare Benson, who received her MFA in Photography/Studio Art from the University of Arizona in 2013 and has received numerous industry accolades as she enters the field, and Paul Mobley, an award-winning NYC-based portrait photographer who has produced four major publications, the most recent of which, IF I LIVE TO BE 100 took him across all 50 states to celebrate the lives of extraordinary centenarians and will be profiled on CBS Sunday Morning this winter. Becky Senf, Chief Curator, Center for Creative Photography and the Norton Family Curator at Phoenix Art Museum, will conclude the morning by sharing how she uses social media to share industry events and opportunities, and offer her insights for artists on having a positive presence on social media. This portion of the day will conclude with a Q&A with all presenters.

The afternoon session will offer photographers the opportunity to share their work with distinguished industry professionals.

All registered participants will receive a link to download a recent article offering advice on preparing for portfolio reviews written by Ms. Swanson. We highly recommend that all full-day participants read this article before the event.
