On Third Friday, Dec 18th, Jayme Blue and Constance McBride will present PLACE OUT OF TIME: V.2. The exhibition will feature recent figurative and abstract work created by both artists. Blue’s work is on display in the White Column Room while McBride’s work will be exhibited in the Tea Room.
PLACE OUT OF TIME: V.2 will be open on Third Fri, Dec 18th. A reception will be held from 7PM – 11PM. The gallery is at 429 W. Jackson St. in Phoenix.
Blue, a painter and mixed media sculptor, is featuring work inspired by found objects she sees in the city to portray loss and urban decay. The artist has added more elements to her installation in the White Column Room. McBride, a figurative ceramic sculptor, is featuring clay figures inspired by her mother’s experience with Alzheimer’s disease. Women, clearly in the grips of the disease, are spiraling out of control. Fragmented parts reflect a metaphor for loss of power, and are symbolic of being incomplete. Crumpled and layered figures are in ruins but still exist. McBride’s work has moved to the Tea Room (The work was previously displayed in the Silver Room).
The Icehouse, operating as an art gallery, has featured numerous local, national and international artists for over 25 years in downtown Phoenix. These could be the last art exhibitions mounted in these historic rooms.
