MIXED GENRE – Life Stories: The Lyrical Distillation of Experience

In this poetry, non-fiction, and experimental prose workshop you will be invited to distill key events and occasions in your life—including opportunities missed that also define you. Writing to communicate the significance of your life, what are the details and narrative wisps that you need to tell? Which of your experiences captures a turning point and therefore cannot be left out? What is surprising and essential from your life that continues to delight you, or horrify you, or help you not to forget what is of utmost importance to a life worth living? In class, we will do written exercises to inspire your writing practice, and you will be invited to share your work to receive supportive, constructive feedback. This course is for new writers and poets as well as those with writing and workshop experience.
