You Are Somewhere Else
You Are Somewhere Else is a juried exhibition featuring images from Gilbert High School’s Beginning and Advanced Digital and Analogue Photography students. The title of the show came out of a class discussion about how images have the power to embody various interpretations of the same concept, and how a single phrase or word can change the meaning of a photograph. The artwork selected for this show ranges from childhood nostalgia, daydream or escape, dream and memory, pursuits of the heart, and both joy and loss.
Students creatively experiment with film and digital photo processes, using expired Polaroid film, color, black and white editing, composition, and lighting. Some of the film images in this show were given new meaning through a process of deconstructing or destroying film negatives or painting with developer, making one of a kind original artworks.
This is a student exhibition, whereby all work was created, matted and framed, and installed by students, with a little help from the GHS Visual Arts Department, and the Drive-Thru Gallery. They are honored to take part in the First and Third Friday Art Walk and to get real world experience as artists.
