SUMMARY:Call for Work - Emerge 2018\, Student Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This call for work is now closed. Please see our Calls for Work page for current and upcoming exhibition opportunities. \nEmerge showcases the breadth of talent exhibited by Arizona’s student photographers from high school freshmen to senior citizens. We welcome photographers enrolled in an Arizona high school (including home school students)\, community college\, art school\, or university to submit their work for consideration.  This year’s submissions to Emerge will be juried by Ashley Czajkowski. \nAs part of our mission to support emerging artists\, we offer student artists an opportunity to show their work in the North and South Galleries at Art Intersection. Art Intersection staff will also select recipients for Best of High School\, Best of Post-High School\, and Best of Show. \n\nAbout the Juror\nAshley Czajkowski\, a photography-based artist\, works in a number of interdisciplinary methods. Driven by personal experience\, her research explores social constructions related to femininity\, mortality and the psychological manifestation of the human-animal.  Though she considers herself a photographer\, Czajkowski also works in video\, installation\, and alternative print processes\, pushing the expected boundaries of the photographic art medium. \n \nCzajkowski achieved her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2009 from Emporia State University in Kansas\, and in 2015 she earned her Master of Fine Arts in photography from Arizona State University. Czajkowski’s work has been exhibited across the United States and internationally. Most recently\, her work was shown at the Soho Photo Gallery in New York\, The Millepiani Art Space in Rome and the CICA Museum in South Korea. She currently resides in Tempe\, Arizona and in 2017 received the inaugural TAFF Award from Phoenix Artlink. Czajkowski teaches photography courses\, works as the sound technician and story editor for the Creative Push Project\, and is a member and former President of Eye Lounge Gallery\, an artist collective in downtown Phoenix. \nSee more of her work at www.ashleyczajkowski.com. \n\nImportant 2018 Dates\nMarch 20 – Submissions close at midnight\, MST (Arizona time)\n March 28 – Email notification of work selected for exhibition\n April 18 – Selected work due at Art Intersection ready to hang/install\nMay 1 – May 26 – Exhibition\n May 5 – Opening Reception\, 5 – 8pm\nMay 31 – June 2 – Pick up work\n June 5 – Work begins shipping back using prepaid shipping labels \n\nEmerge 2018 Sponsors\nThank you to our generous sponsors who make our “Best of Emerge” awards possible! Our sponsors’ support of student photographers helps us share the unforgettable experience of participating in a professional exhibition\, a confidence boost that can vault an emerging photographer to their next level of success. \n \nBest in Show: $250 cash prize\n Sponsored by Through Each Other’s Eyes\nThrough Each Other’s Eyes develops exchanges with photographers in other countries for the purpose of documenting photographically a new culture from the viewpoint of an outsider. \n \nBest of High School: $100 cash prize\nSponsored by Kelly and Dennis Collins\nKelly and Dennis Collins are local artists\, art patrons\, and Art Intersection members. \n“After quitting school at sixteen\, it wasn’t until I returned for my Bachelor of Fine Arts at forty-five that I realized how important the education I had missed was. I hope this small gift is the catalyst and encouragement for a young artist to pursue their education and passion for their art.” – Dennis Collins \n  \n \nBest of Post-High School: $100 cash prize\nSponsored by Charlene Stant Engel\nCharlene Stant Engel is a local artist\, art patron\, and Art Intersection member. \n“I look forward to the Emerge Show. Every year it is fresh and unexpected. It always makes me smile to see the work of so many intense and talented young artists. To them I say: Let nothing stop you. Keep making Art!” – Charlene Stant Engel \n\nPlease Note: Submission entries with incorrect or incomplete information will not be accepted.
