SUMMARY:The Fundamentals of Using a Large Format Camera
DESCRIPTION:Do you have an interest in learning to use a large view camera? Discover the joy of using 4×5 black and white film and learn about all of the camera movements in this introductory workshop led by Rod Klukas. \nRod Klukas has photographed with large format cameras for many years\, and taught classes in Large Format Photography and the History of Photography\, at Scottsdale Community College\, and many workshops specifically using view cameras\, all over the world. He has photographed with 4×5 and 8×10 cameras in North and South America\, Europe\, China\, and Antarctica. He holds an MFA from Arizona State University in Photography\, and currently is the United States representative for Arca-Swiss International. \nMany of the masters of photography\, Wynn Bullock\, Ansel Adams\, Edward Weston\, and many more created their iconic images using view cameras.  A view camera offers exceptional flexibility for creative control that is unavailable to you by using fixed or nonadjustable cameras. Large format film also allows you to make contact prints with alternative processes and to make very large\, high-quality prints. \nWith your new knowledge of the camera’s movements\, you will experience a new way of seeing\, working\, and adjusting perspective and focus points of each photograph. You will also learn how to individually expose and develop each sheet of 4×5 black and white film; 6 sheets of black and white film and development chemistry are included. \nYou can use one of our 4×5 cameras or bring your own. In the classroom on Saturday you will: \n\nload\, expose\, and develop 4×5 film\nuse camera movements – tilt\, shift\, swing\, rise and fall\nlearn how the lens and shutter work\nscan your negatives to show at the end of the workshop\n\nIf you want to join us in the field to practice with a view camera\, on Sunday morning we will head to the field (exact location is yet to be decided) and capture images using one of our 4×5 cameras\, or bring your own.
