SUMMARY:Respite. - A Group Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Modified Arts presents the work of five diverse artists\, working in a variety of media to bridge the gap between order and chaos in their lives and creative processes. \nFollowing his 2014 graduation with a dual fine-arts degree in photography and printmaking\, Daniel Mariotti sought the means and motivation to continue his art practice\, and that of his peers\, rather than allow their skills to flounder. With this exhibition\, Mariotti gathers peers Christopher Colville and Zach Baltzly\, and fellow ASU graduates Kenosha Drucker and Nicholas Gutierrez for a mix of media\, style and subject matter\, while still creating a cohesive direction for their work. \nChristopher Colville melds traditional photographic processes and experimental surfaces for haunting\, yet contemporary\, images. Kenosha Drucker utilizes charcoal\, paint\, pencil\, fabric-and-wire sculpture\, and drywall for dark\, striking pieces eager to draw attention and viewer speculation. Nicholas Gutierrez similarly works in dark charcoals\, but instead crafts a narrative in assembled works. Zach Baltzly paints over chaotic\, multicolored scenes for a unified vision. And Daniel Mariotti blends drawing\, photography\, printmaking\, and film in layers\, forcing the viewer to pick apart one from the other. \nCurator’s Statement:\nRespite reflects on human moments; like the surface of a clear lake disrupted by a pebble breaking the surface\, creating chaos that overtime slips back into its original peaceful state. \nWith the combined efforts of Christopher Colville\, Kenosha Drucker\, Nicholas Gutierrez\, Zach Baltzly\, and Daniel Mariotti\, the complexity of these moments are visually discussed.
