DESCRIPTION:In this course we will be exploring the nature of the “essay” as an experiment of language\, a test of reality and truth-telling as well as a vehicle for rumination and inquiry. Working from your own observations and past experiences you will draft a lyric essay that reflects extra-ordinary insights drawn from ordinary occurrences. We will discuss ways to convey our insights with concrete\, descriptive\, and evocative prose\, and will practice writing hybrid essays—part poem\, part prose—that crystallize the insights that arise from the world in and around us.
