DESCRIPTION:Cattletrack Arts Compound is pleased to announce that artist Kate Breakey’s exhibition\, Out of Darkness\, will open with a reception from 1-5pm on December 14th. Although best known for her hand-colored photographs of birds and flowers\, Breakey has undertaken a wide variety of projects in recent years.  \nHer latest work\, Out of Darkness offers new hand-worked land\, cloud and moonscapes. Breakey’s photographs record her passion for the desert\, while reflecting on the fragility of nature. In Out of Darkness she depicts fleeting moments such as a lunar eclipse or a magnificent array of storm clouds gathering over the desert. Kate Breakey will attend the opening\, which features the musical stylings by acoustic duo\, the Willbillies and guitar virtuoso\, Jack Alves and refreshments.  \nCattletrack Arts Compound Hours: 10am-5pm\, Mon-Sat and by appointment. Closed: 12/25 and 12/31.  \nKate Breakey is internationally known for her large-scale\, richly hand-colored photographs\, including her series of luminous portraits of birds\, flowers and animals. Her photography has been published in the volumes Small Deaths: Photographs; Birds/Flowers; Painted Light; Slow Light and Las Sombras/The Shadows. Breakey’s work has appeared in more than 80 one-person exhibitions and more than 50 group exhibitions in the United States\, the United Kingdom\, Australia\, Japan\, China\, New Zealand\, and France.  \nKate Breakey’s work is held in many public collections\, including the Australian National Gallery\, Canberra; the Center for Creative Photography\, Tucson; the Museum of Photographic Arts\, San Diego; and the Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston. A native of South Australia\, Kate Breakey moved to Austin\, Texas in 1988. She completed her MFA degree at the University of Texas in 1991 and taught photography and Art History there until 1997.
