SUMMARY:Artist Lecture with Karen Hymer
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, April 7 for an Artist Lecture with Tucson-based artist Karen Hymer! Karen will speak about her artwork and will share how her artistic journey led her to the process of photogravure. This lecture is free and open to the public. \nTo try the photogravure process for yourself\, sign up for our Photogravure Workshop with Karen Hymer on Saturday\, April 8! Click here for more details and to register. \nAbout Karen\nKaren Hymer is an artist and educator based out of Tucson\, Arizona. For the past four years she has ventured into the world of printmaking – exploring imagery in the form of photopolymer gravures. Her current work explores the effects of time on the human body and various plant life. Hymer’s richly detailed photogravures emphasize the interplay of texture\, pattern\, light and shadow in muted earth tones. The decontextualized close-ups of the body and decaying plants reveal a poetic beauty in these often over-looked subjects. \n \nHymer earned her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art Photography from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston and Tufts University\, Medford and her Master of Arts and Master of Fine Art in Fine Art Photography from the University of New Mexico\, Albuquerque. \nHymer actively exhibits her work both nationally and internationally. Recent venues include the Phoenix Art Museum (Phoenix\, AZ)\, The Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins\, CO)\, Athens Institute for Contemporary Art (Athens\, GA)\, New Grounds (Albuquerque\, NM) and Art Intersection (Gilbert\, AZ). In 2014 she was a Contemporary Forum Grant Recipient from the Phoenix Art Museum and her work is in several public collections\, including the Center for Creative Photography and the Polaroid International Collection. \nRemnants #202\, Karen Hymer \nHer experience and technical interests are wide-ranging. Although “trained” as a photographer\, her approach to image making explores the blending of photo-sensitive materials\, digital media\, printmaking and encaustics. She offers workshops in Photopolymer Gravure printing and private consultations for digital color management and fine art digital printing. \nRemnants #230\, Karen Hymer
