SUMMARY:Arizona Odyssey - Photographs by Kerrick James
DESCRIPTION:Art Intersection presents the photographs of Kerrick James in the Gallery 4 exhibition Arizona Odyssey\, Forty Years of Roaming for Beauty. These photographs show our Arizona home through storms and seasons\, starry nights and liquid afternoons\, and highways that lead to backroads and canyons where lost can be found. \n“I have always sought authentic beauty\, with Photography as my medium and seer. First it was beauty in nature\, later also in people and in their signs and wonders\, the promised adventure of living well. Through words and images\, I’ve shared what I found\, what is now lost\, and if permitted a small legacy\, then what can be for my sons\, and theirs.”  \n“I chose Arizona as my home some 40 years ago\, as the very best place to live out and grow my life\, and over time I clearly see the choice made was fortuitous. More people have come here of course\, to share the desert silence\, the mountain presence\, the ephemeral magic of water flowing in a desiccated land\, our fragile oasis culture.” \n \nKerrick James began photographing Arizona in 1977\, at first only the wild places of exotic beauty\, then over time the people and cultures of our Southwestern nirvana. These 67 images are drawn from a thousand explorations across the expanse of Arizona. Some are of places now lost to flood or time. They depict iconic landscapes\, ephemeral weather and celestial phenomena\, billion-year-old rocks and medusa-like saguaros\, cowboys and horses\, Hopi and Navajo dancers\, adventurers and musicians alike. And of course\, Route 66\, our distinctive slice of the highway of American myth\, and promised freedom. \n \nArt Intersection’s Gallery 4 presents visual art exhibitions with strong social\, environmental\, and cultural messages using mediums of photography\, painting\, mixed media\, and the spoken word.
