This past Saturday marked the opening day for our Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. exhibition, featuring archival photographs from Dan Budnik chronicling the Selma-Montgomery March, the March on Washington D.C., and the Voting Rights Act; and Susan Berger’s images of streets throughout the United States named in honor of Martin Luther King.
Copies of Susan’s book, “Life and Soul – American Streets Honoring Martin Luther King” are available, as well as a small number of signed copies of Dan’s book, “Marching to the Freedom Dream.” If you are interested in a copy of either, please send us an email at info@artintersection.com.
This past Saturday marked a delightful occasion as we warmly hosted the artists of Little by Little, along with their families and friends, for the opening night of the exhibition. The crisp autumn air provided the perfect backdrop, adding an extra layer of charm to the evening. It was truly heartening to see the artists in the company of their captivating works, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with creativity and camaraderie. We’re grateful to have shared this memorable evening with such talented individuals!
These pieces are perfect for holiday gifts, so if one catches your eye send us an email at info@artintersection.com to make an inquiry! You can find the online gallery of the work here, if you aren’t able to make it to Gallery 4 to see the show in person at HD South.
Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Saturday for our opening reception for this year’s Picturing Resistance exhibition, as well as juror Ken Light‘s With These Hands exhibition in Gallery 4! Picturing Resistance captures the essence of decades of protests and demonstrations, showcasing how the collective voice of the people has the power to incite powerful political changes.
Emerging in a climate where the exploitation of American farmworkers, notably children, has made headlines in recent months, With These Hands arrives as a poignant reminder. Ken’s evocative photographs, taken in the 1970s, serve as an undeniable testament that the pervasive issue of child labor exploitation has plagued the nation for decades.
Both exhibitions are open to view in Gallery 4 at HD South in Gilbert’s Heritage District until September 30th, so there is still plenty of time to take a look before we transition to our next exhibition. In the meantime, have a look at a few moments from the opening reception!
Art Intersection is hosting a three-session Street Photography Workshop with Neil Miller this September, which will provide an excellent foundation for those inspired by Picturing Resistance and With These Hands to make protest and documentary photographs of their own!
Over thirty members showed their work in this year’s No Strangers exhibition, and over one-hundred visitors joined us for the opening reception to see the art made by our member community.
Every year Art Intersection puts out a call for work to our Sponsor level and above members to have their work curated into the No Strangers exhibition. This year there are well over one-hundred pieces of art decorating the gallery walls!
Before the opening Timothy McCoy held a talk about his work currently in Ryan Gallery, Beyond My Lens. Timothy’s work has been seen in several past Light Sensitive exhibitions at Art Intersection, and Beyond My Lens features selections from his Tongues to Stone, Long Long Journey, Sanctuary, The Water Course Way, and Street Life bodies of work.
Thank you to all who attended our opening reception for this year’s Little by Little exhibition! These small artworks invite the viewer to look closer, and can wonderful holiday gifts for the season.
You can view the full Little by Little exhibition online here, and if you are interested in purchasing any of the pieces, just give us a call during our business hours or send us a message at info@artintersection.com!
Thank you to everyone who attended the opening reception for our Picturing Resistance exhibition this past Saturday, where we had the pleasure of having author and performer Ada McCartney read selections of her own poems, as well as from Diane di Prima’s Revolutionary Letters in the passionate spirit of the images displayed on the walls in this exhibition.
Picturing Resistance will run until October 22nd, so there is still plenty of time to drop by and see the exhibition. In the meantime, have a look at a few moments from the opening reception!
In addition to selecting the work featured the Picturing Resistance exhibition, Ken Light has images from his book, Midnight la Frontera, on display in Ryan Gallery. These images, while captured between 1983 and 1987 while he rode along with U.S. Border Patrol agents, depict the same inhumane treatment migrants face today at our border. Both Picturing Resistance and Midnight La Frontera will be available to view at Art Intersection until October 22nd.
The 2019 NoStrangers Artist Reception had an incredible turn out of friends, family, art lovers, and members of the Art Intersection community. Thank you to all who joined us for a fun filled night highlighting the work by our members. NoStrangers is on display until September 14th.
