Artist Statement
The images presented are part of Mr. Rice’s portfolio, “The Field”, published in 2013. It is a deeply personal work dedicated to his father, Donald Rice. The images were taken on the day Robert’s father died and they represent the brief moment we have in time.
The portfolio was produced in an edition of 20 sets and is printed on Awagami Unryu 55gm/m2 paper.
Bio
Robert Rice is a local artist who has lived in Arizona since 1974. He has been photographing for over 40 years. Mr. Rice studied with Ansel Adams at his Yosemite workshops in 1975 and 1976 and more recently with Tom Mallonee and Jenney Ellerbe. Robert prints using a custom hextone ink system designed by Tom Mallonne.
His work has been shown at Art Intersection in Gilbert, Arizona, the Vision Gallery in Chandler, Arizona, the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, the Chandler Public Library and the Chandler Unified School District. In 2001 Mr. Rice won the “Photograph of the Year” Award from the AFECA Tour Consultants.
