Artist Statement

I am a nature photographer. For me, nature photography is about capturing pure natural moments in an artistic form. I strive to capture scenes that are both natural in perspective and appearance. I work with standard and medium telephoto prime lenses on digital cameras. I enjoy both color and black & white photography. My photography happens in the field rather than behind a computer monitor.. Moment, mood, and light. I like to keep things simple and let nature do the talking. I love to capture fleeting moments of wondrous light during storms or before sunset. The quality of light is so important in photography. It’s important to actually see what is happening in front of you. If it doesn’t look good to you, it won’t look any better to the camera. It’s always about light. Flat boring light will produce flat boring photos. That’s a lesson I learned long ago.

I’m an Arizona native. I grew up in small rural areas of northern Arizona and now live in Gilbert. My parents raised me up around all things outdoors. The city was always very foreign to me and still is to this day. I’ve had a camera in my hands since I was about twelve but it wasn’t until my mid-thirties that I started taking photography more seriously. I’m completely self-taught. I learned the mechanics of photography from books and online tutorials. I’m still learning to this day. I’m honored to have published photos in Arizona Highways. I print my work on either satin metal or satin fine art paper. Thank you for your interest.
